Niobe was relieved for the change of subject. It was teetering on the edge of some very dangerous memories and she was feeling a little uncomfortable. Standing, Niobe stretched a little, feeling a bit restless, and she settled down closer to Cypress before responding. Well, I am new to these lands...and this place is just the firest place I've been. I was looking for a place that didn't smell too much like wolves...most packs I've come across have just chased me out. That's the life of a loner, I suppose, right?
Nio smiled warmly at Cypress. Finally, someone who understood. Or so she hoped. Cypress seemed very different from herself. Didn't he ache from lonliness? She certainly did. And conversation too. She was practically begging to have someone talk to her, to hear another voice besides her own. Did he not feel the same way? Maybe he was stronger than her and didn't need all that...

"Hm. Yes, you're right. The more I talk to you, the more I feel I should belong in a pack. We both should." Cypress was starting to find this conversation just as upsetting as the last. He was careful to hide his emotions, yet on the inside he felt an overwhelming sadness come over him. To everyone who crossed his path, he would say packs were needless and pointless, yet he was starting to realise that it was a lie to disguise how he felt. He had a few friends, sure, but talking to the birds and other small creatures of the forest only made him wish he could be with his own kind. Niobe seemed like she wanted that as well, only in her case that want seemed much stronger and more urgent.
Cypress was beginning to trust her a bit more now, and to him she seemed different from everyone else he'd met. For a brief moment a rare, slight smile formed across his mouth, though it was gone in almost an instant. "You can stay here as long as you like. It's safe here, and the two of us are the only wolves around. To be honest, I'd like it if you stayed."

Niobe looked startled, looking up at Cypress in alarm. He wanted her to stay! And she was beginning to think she was annoying him! Do you really mean that, Cypress? Oh, thank the gods! I was really worried I was upsetting you...I would be very happy to stay. You're the only other wolf I've really talked to... Her tail wagged and she gave him a warm smile.
I suppose we're safer together than alone...even if we lack a big pack. And it makes me feel less lonely... Truth be told, she was enjoying herself and being with Cypress. It was all so new to her and she was loving it.

Cypress nodded in agreement. "Perhaps we could find others. There may be more wolves down south." He had never been farther than the beach, and he couldn't help but curiously wondered what was beyond that point.
Not only would it be nice to have a new traveling companion, but looking at Niobe's rather large body Cypress wondered how good of a hunter she was. He had never even tasted a deer before, and having a companion might prove to be useful in more ways than one. He gave her another slight smile. "But in the meantime, what do you say we find some food first?"

Niobe's ears perked right up and she was on her feet in an instant. Now you're talking, Cypress! Something big...like a deer...oooh, I haven't had a deer in ages! There are some nearby, I know, I smelled them... She grinned widely at her companion, feeling full of energy and alive. It was so good to have another creature at her side. She had been alone so long.
I've managed to take down a fawn by myself before, but usually the mothers or even the fathers chase me away...but fawn meat is so tender and juicy... Her tail wagged as she lifted her nose to the wind, trying to catch the scent of deer again. And after the hunt...they would go find more wolves! Would that be a good or bad thing? Hard to say...but they would certainly find out!
