Surrounded by Headway Town and the mines lies the ancient mystery of the Ruins. They are a mixture of dark grey and light rock which are stacked on top of each other in a rounded shape much like pillars. The colour order is light gray with dark stacked up on top but it can be the other way around. But they aren’t like any human-style pillars. They are coarse, rough and vary greatly in size. They don’t seem to have any real order at all. It's almost like nature itself had built them. These strange pillars looked like they used to tower over the landscape but this is no longer the case. They are in ruins (thus now known as The Ruins) with several pillars reduced to stubs, cracked with parts falling off. Many have been claimed by moss. A few have even toppled altogether! Their remains litter the ground, many bits sticking out of the ground at different angles, making it uneven.
The legend surrounding this archaic place are numerous, great, and a good few dark. One well known one says that long ago there were a group of gifted animals that took over the land and killed many. They formed a cult with the remaining animals and tried to set about their ultimate ambition: to become gods! The chosen started to hunt for magic, relics and anything they could find to use against the gods! Some say gods saw this and decided to punish them. They easily defeated the cult and the chosen animals. After that they were banished alive to the Underworld. They did not give up, though. The chosen animals made a deal with demons for powers. They then gathered the punished souls there (and ate the ones who refused), and caused a breach in the underworld that let them free to wreck havoc on the land, causing major damage and consuming hundreds of innocent animals mind, body and soul. This enraged the gods and again they attacked and easily crushed the Demonic Chosen and their cult. This time, there was no mercy for them. They were painfully killed then spat back into the Underworld along with the demons that come through. After that, the gods sealed the Underworld and built the Pillars, (including Twilight Ridge and Deepwater Lakes' lone Pillars) puting a spell on them that would never allow anyone to force their way out again. Some animals now say that due to the pillars' decay, the Chosen with their dreaded followers and demons will break out again for final revenge. But, others say that the demons probably would have snacked shortly after they were sent back…
Another legend, just as grizzly say’s that the Pillars here and in the other terra’s were built by Dis as alters of sacrifice. He enjoyed the taste of souls and wanted more! But if he were to kill of masses of mortals then he would surely be punished by the other gods. So, in secret he set up the pillars and called for all predators to make sacrifices in his name. Some ran afraid, some refused to do such an act even at the risk of death and some answered his demand and set up cults. These cults were dotted around but mainly in Twilight Ridge-the place that was claimed to be Dis’s domain. They carefully planned and murdered whole herds of Elk, Deer, Caribou and Dall sheep. But they did not stop at prey. Weak young and old animals also came to a similar fate as did lone animals that did not join the bloody cults. Even humans were sacrificed All these cults met up (if their cult was not already nearby) every year for a mass sacrifice. They were ripped apart so the blood would freely flow over the rocks. The victim’s soul then would be trapped in the pillars for Dis to devour when he chooses. Many animals hope is this just a story but with rumours of rituals in Twilight Ridge; it may be a nightmare come true…..
