Forestsit Forest:
Rabbit forest (known as Harvard forest to humans) is a forest with a long past peace then fear and death. Now it’s being completely destroyed by human logging efforts. It was not always like that though. A while back it was known as birth forest. The name came about when weary prey animals traveled from the Eternal Plains. Emerald forest, though full of opportunity intimidated many. They thought that their young would easily fall victim in the gargantuan maze of trees which added to the fact that wolves and other predators would know the place well, made most prey animals want somewhere much less dense and easier to keep track of young. This is where Birth Forest came in. It was a perfect place to go. But only for a small while
Before the trouble the forest was much like her sister forest next to Crescent Shore but with its own variations. For a start, the Silverfish River split up and branched around the forest giving it and two extra places for drinking water. After that the forest was a lot denser. Not as heavily as Emerald Forest to the north but enough to be noticeable to anyone who has been to the forest in Crescent shore. The trees were bigger with the grass being longer but not long enough for a predator to easily sneak up on a young calf. The final variation is that it is on flatter ground while the forest adjacent to Crescent Shore is on higher ground.
The land itself is perfect for prey animals to give birth and raise their young! The long grass as mentioned before gave cover for prey that placed their children in grass like elk while not being too large and being a good food source. The trees supplemented the food for the prey with nice long leafy branches. The said trees let in plenty of sunlight unlike the ones in Emerald Forest which hogged most of it. The Twin Rivers were an easy water source. The ground was dotted with bushes and berries for alternative food sources. Of course, the forest was also a good place for the predator to catch something. Small rodents and birds were plentiful for small predators. The young tempted most even with the eyes of mothers. A skilled hunter could catch an unfortunate victim. If the young were not enough then the mothers and fathers themselves could be caught!
The legend of this place was that the earth god Gaea made this place as a site of peace and joy after the mighty Emerald Forest. A place where the young could grow up. Even the unlucky young to be killed by predators were said to grow up here as spirits before departing to the afterlife at adulthood. Sometimes on a still day a large breeze would rustle by which was said to be the spirits running and playing. This was said to be a legend though.
The peace here ended when humans settled nearby. The nexus of peace where many prey were born became an easy food and pleasure source for years. The air was filled with the smell of gunpowder and blood. The predators were killed; many making fine rugs and skins out of their fur. As the prey animals were taught this was a site of death they departed. Many to the very forest they were intimidated by. This where the name Rabbit Forest comes from you see. Run like a Rabbit or die! Hunting and trapping still continued for a while though until the company Harvard Logging Co (named after the very forest) saw this as a perfect place to log. When they meant cut down they meant completely cut it down. A storm of mules’ workers with the occasion tractor came to destroy the already ruined forest. Dirt paths were formed with railways not far off as the constant sound of chopping coupled with the falling trees filled the air. The logs were carried by mules with log arches in tow to the railway where they were taken to lumber mill to be processed then sold on. This is making Harvard Logging a fair bit of cash and the owner is hoping to extend into Emerald Forest………
