Power of Death. The Power of Death: "BLUE!!!! BLUE!!!!!!!!! WAKE UP! WAKE UP FOR LUNA’S SAKE!!!!!"” Blue jumped as the desperate voice of his mother pierced into his very soul. Dragging him from his dreamless sleep! Blue’s furry dark grey ears pricked up. His eyes shot open. It was at this moment that he was intending to ask what was wrong but deep down he knew, in horror what she wanted. It was another hunt. A wolf hunt! A large bang thundered overhead; ending with a thud and destroyed any vain hope of him being wrong. He nervously got up in the dark earthy den shaking slightly. His eyes were adjusting to the light and he could make out that his white pelted mother Jade was doing the same. The wolves could smell each others fear. “Stop staring! We must get out! Get out of here while you still can” She cried to him. He could hear a tone of fear in her voice. Both clambered out of the den as another bang exploded near them, taking a small chunk out of a nearby tree with a snapping sound. Blue saw his mother duck while whimpering nervously like a defenceless pup. It was hard to remember when she was the firm will of the pack. This was the alpha who had guided them to prey and safety, time and time again. Now she was a white pathetic shadow of her former self. “We’ve got to escape!” She panted. “Lance and Zahn have already made it before this started. Now is ju..s…st..-Her desperate voice had trailed off into a whimper as she smelt and shortly after heard her nightmare-the bloodthirsty barking of hunting dogs. “RUN! RUN!!!” She screamed in a truly horrified voice. The wolves ran, kicking snow up as they went. Blue felt like his head was spinning. He wanted to be sick but had no food to bring up. It was the same nightmare all over again. The same sound of guns. The same sound of hungry dogs. The same screams. The same feeling of dread stopping you from looking back encase they were close or had gotten your dearest pack member. The same thoughts of his father being ripped to pieces in front of your eyes. His agonised cries destroying your mind. Your sanity! Your will to go on! The cruelist thing was that it was happening again. He could hear them getting closer. Just ready to take their next victim and return it to their two legged masters. Their new victim was his mother. She was weak and falling behind. Blue spun his head around and cried to her. “Keep going mother! Please, just keep going!” “I can’t…..my dear!" She called back “Just go! Don’t slow! You have…a better chance……than me.” She swallowed in grim acceptance. Her face still transfixed in fear of what was going to happen to her . “May Luna guide you to safety” “Noooo!!!!” He screamed back. But he could already see the tips of the muzzles of the dogs. He wanted to look away but could not keep his eyes off his mother. His mind span even more in conflict. Finally a dog lept and grabbed hold of her leg, forcing her down. “GOOOD BYE BLUE AH.. AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!” The last thing he heard was her agonised screams. Blue desperately tried to bottle his emotions and just run. Running on forever as several gun shots flew past him. That was all he could do now………. Tell me what you think so far and point out any grammar errors since i make lots of them. Luna belongs to Sliver Sky Studios.

Part Two:
Blue kept running through the snowy landscape. Trees, rocks and bushes flew past him (and he almost hit some) as he ran from the wolf hunt. Blue had no idea how long he had been running and would only stop when he felt he was far from the den, well one of the dens anyway. They had been moving every few day’s so as not to get caught by the humans. In the end it had failed with three pack members already dead. Blue first remembered his father William. He was a large bulky grey wolf with several odd dark grey lines running across him. He could anger easily but never in front of him and the rest of the litter. With them he was so gentle and kind with his calm amber eyes and large rough tongue licking them. William was never fast though and was hit by several bullets and torn to pieces by dogs. Blue wanted to close his eyes at this though but couldn’t dare hitting something.
Next there was Jas; a meagre omega that was desperately hungry when he first arrived. He said he could eat an entire bull Elk and would have eaten all the remaining deer the pack had caught if not stopped. (Which they got a few hours earlier) He soon proved his worth though. Jas constantly scouted for new den sights and prey. It was easy for him as his light build and muddy brown coat that let him hide in mud. Jas always was playful, almost to the point of annoyance but he was still loved. He went scouting one day though and never came back. The pack did not even found the body. But Jas’s scouting still helped them find the many den sights’ so his efforts were not in vain. Blue, at this point now felt sorrow hit him like a waterfall.
Finally there was his mother-Jade. Always driving the pack on, always helping every member keep going, always protecting them. She got them food and shelter. She got them safety. But all this at a great cost. The pressure took a high toll on her. She seemed to age faster; her fur greying, her joints weaker, her mind jaded as with her name. At one point she was a brilliant white like Luna herself. She was patient, forgiving and fun to be with. But this was all shattered when her mate died. Part of her was torn away like prey meat. She fell apart and the stress worsened it. She had stopped smiling, laughing or loving. It was almost if she forgot how. “Well at least she can be happy now” He thought solemnly “She can rest in peace now” He Blue stopped, skidding slightly and sending up snow. He could not stop now! They would find him and kill him…..but he felt too wrecked to keep going. Physically and mentally; for the first time in a little while the pain in his stomach arose and stabbed. His legs started to buckle like a weak bridge. He swaggered down to the cold hard snow. He felt its cold touch against his cheek. He cared not though. Blue already felt cold inside feeling the pain of the last few months.
It had started with a number of friendly packs missing. Then prey dropped as if some disease had struck it. After that the loners who sometimes join you or steal from you stopped coming. All this in mid-summer when everything usually thrived. Then everyone knew what was causing this mass death by autumn. A massive wolf hunt-apparently the biggest for years was being done by humans and their soulless dogs. Dozens more wolves fell. Not just wolves as well. Bears Lynxes, Deer, Elk, caribou and horses all felt impact too! All the reasons for this started to crop up. The religious elders started say that it was judgement from the gods for not worshipping them enough. Others said that it was a test for the strong and humans would soon be all eaten in one gulp by Luna. Then you had the rational ones saying that humans liked killing or that it was revenge for taking their slave herds. But by this time it was not of matter of why as when it would stop and what would need to be done. But by winter the food was even lower and most of the animals were dead. His pack only got through by luck and skill. But as they fled from den to den they had seen very little life.
Blue remembered the dogs and pricked his quickly ears up. Nothing but the cold wind howling. “Thank Luna” He thought as he got up. It was a small comfort but a comfort never the less. Now he needed to find food. The latter thought ruined that comfort he previously. It was empty and only the strong preys were left. He had to keep going though. There could be a weak animal that gave into the harshness of winter. Picking himself back on his rickety leg’s he went on, trying not to grieve too much….

As said the land was a winter wasteland. Like a stage missing its cast, its extras and with only the props remaining. The trees were snow Laden with lifeless crooked branches spread out as if ready to snatch you up. The ground was a solid white blanket with grass looking as if it was trying to climb out. At some points the snow was so thick that Blue sank slightly while walking. On occasions you found a bush or an evergreen tree but there was not much to be seen in them. The sky was a dull old looking grey with little white specs of snow flying down, painting his dark grey coat white. A snowflake hit Blue’s left eye making him wince then growl. He looked back to see the same as he had seen before. Trees, trees, snow trees, trees snow, snow and more trees. All yielding nothing! It was so quiet as well. It was just the sound of the blowing wind and the steady crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch of his steps.
Bluewolf sniffed the cold air. Several light scents flying around like seeds; all from several days ago. There were only bird scents and nothing that would nourish him for long. The though made his stomach hurt again. His legs, again wanted to collapse like a building under demolition. “I have to keep going” He forcefully thought. He kept pushing on. Sometimes physically throwing himself forward and almost tripping as much as he breathed.
A thought came to his wiring head. His mother had said that Lance and Zahn had already gone. If they were gone then where were they now? He’d howl but he felt too weak and it might attract the dogs. He wanted to see Zahn but not that damned Lance.
Zahn was the only other surviving member of the litter of six he was in. The others were still born or to weak to get through the last winter. He was an average sized wolf with a peat black pelt and rare blue eyes. He was always a defender and never had a go at you for any reason. Zahn was also the voice of reason when arguments got bad while in peace managed help take down countless prey animals. Some on his own! Best of all though, he was a survivor that got you through.
Then there was Lance.
From day one of his sudden arrival in autumn he treated the pack like dirt. His parents punished him several times for his disrespect but the problem was that he knew what to do and how to do it. The tan furry wolf was built for winter! Even besting Zahn at skill! Lance took down prey, fended off dogs and managed to keep going. His faults were disrespect and treating pack members based on their usefulness. If you were weak to him, you should not get food! It was barbaric! Blue almost starved when he, Lance and Zahn were scouting. Only after Zahn fought with Lance did he change his mind. Even then there was not much food, His parents could not kill or banish him though. Lance was too useful, proving that the barstard’s seemed to get the best skills in this world.
Blue’s nose caught something. “FOOD?” He yelled. The wolf rushed over, tripping over several times to find a strange plant with deep blue-black berries. He sniffed it, and found the scent familiar-- tempting, even. The fragrance of it made tendrils of silvery drool hang from his mouth and set his stomach growling like a cornered wolverine. Without a second thought, he opened his mouth wide and bit a large mouthful of its shiny, sweet fruit.
No sooner had he done so, Blue felt something cold ruffle his fur, pungent-smelling and foul. He wrinkled his muzzle, and turned to see... a massive snake breathing down his neck. Its eyes, like huge, shiny gemstones, deceptively mystifying but at the same time terrifying, glimmered wickedly in the low light. Its fangs were like icicles, or stalactites, with gnarled grooves running through them like the bark of a tree, but fearsome all the same. “D-D-D-Dis”, stammered Blue, an icicle of fear plunging into his chest. The snake winked, which was very odd for a being with no eyelids. Bluewolf shook his head in denial-- he couldn't be dead! He panicked, and tried to run, but his legs suddenly went weak, and he fell, dizziness and nausea flooding his senses. His stomach heaved, and vomit sprayed onto the ground. “No! I...I'm too young to die!”, he shouted at the towering serpentine figure. Dis sighed. “Can't anyone think of an original thing to say when I turn up?”, he groaned. His voice was deep, cold and tired-sounding -- no hint of hissing or lisping s-es as you might expect from a snake. “And try telling that to those ravens over there”. He gestured towards a group of glossy black birds watching hungrily as Blue rolled helplessly on the ground. Why now? Why did life have to come when his was at risk? He knew what those berries were to! They were only found in winter and made many animals meet their end! The wolf yelped at the pain racking his insides and closed his eyes tight. Perhaps he'd wake up... it would be all a bad dream... he'd live happily ever after. Okay, maybe not happily all the time, but at least he'd be alive.
When he opened his eyes again, he found himself staring at himself. Or his own carcass, to be exact. It was swarming with ravens, squabbling over his eyeballs. Blue recoiled in horror. He felt his stomach turn, but as he technically didn't have one any more, he avoided spilling its contents again. Just then, something scaly tapped his head, and Blue gulped. Blackness engulfed him...

For a few moments there was nothing. No scent of his own terror or the old familiar smell of his now eyeless carcass. No sound of Ravens nosily cawing, competing for his sea blue orbs or the best meat. No sight of their jet black feathers hoping over his limp grey corpse as more of the blurred black streaks of death flew in like an owl striking down upon a mouse. There was not even the feeling of the unexpectedly smooth black scales of the reptile river boatman of the animal world nor a gust wind as there was none here in this cold void of darkness. The recently late wolf did not even think. His mind was as blank as the void around him. It was as if he did not exist…..
A bright shining light hit the lupine in the face like a torch! The smell of the dew covered grass greeted his nose! The constant chatter and song of birds rushed into his ears! That cold but oh so smooth skin of the death god! He was in the afterlife! He existed! Blue sprang from his dew soaked side and leaped over Dis’s coil that had been gently wrapped around him like a blanket, landing front paws first after clearing the coils gracefully. He looked down at his paws in awe. He had never jumped like that! Shortly after this jump the late wolf ran round in a circle sniffing the air while enjoying the strong breeze ruffling through his fur.(Spirits can still feel, touch etc ) His body was no longer bony from hunger. Instead his shape was of a wolf that had caught an elk the day before! Bluewolf joyfully threw his head up to the clear blue sky. He could enjoy this world forever without any pain or weariness. All those loved ones dead…his father..his..mother the pups. Maybe even Jas too. The prey animals to surprise that the pack caught, maybe even hunt them again. A sinister toothy grin spread around his face. There was a lot of mischief this wolf could have now.
After doing several laps around Dis the wolf sat down to spin his head eagerly around so he could lick down some displaced damp grey fur. After a short grooming nibble he looked round excitingly at what would be his eternal residence-his soft pink tongue hanging out his mouth as he panted slightly. Bluewolf looked back to Dis who smiled and shook his head. “Not as scared or reluctant after they find out what it’s like” He thought with the smile still stuck on his face. Meanwhile the wolf silently watched Dis. With all the panic and confusion from his exit to life the wolf had not been able to take in all of the serpents features. The lupine could now. For a start the snake dwarfed Blue. The god’s long body could easily crush the largest moose or swallow an elk whole without much trouble. Its long thick body would snap any normal tree. A thick line of white scales ran down his entire underside where the snake crawled along. This thick whiteness blurred into grey on then totally black scales that sprawled along his sides and back with a few white grey scales dotted on his sides. The snake’s tongue flicked in and out, In and out with timed precision. It was this odd mix of a blackish purple that faded into white at the very end.
“Curious about me?” Dis inquired in his cold voice, keeping a steady gaze on Blue with his gemlike eyes. “No…no not at all….umn I sorry I stared too long” Blue replied. (Well more like stuttered) The dead wolf lowered himself like he would in submission. It was a bad thing to upset a god. "I should not have stared at you. My mother taught me not to stare at ANY go-“It’s ok” Dis calmly interrupted. “Not every day you see someone like me.” The though brought him back to those amusing moments where those mortals who did not believe in him or the gods first laid eyes on him. (And usually the last) The look on their face was priceless. The sheer shock, fright and denial in their eyes… Even more so if they claimed he was just an illusion—which at that point found out that it was a very deadly illusion. He wished for more moments like that. Sometimes so much that he was quite happy when an animal rejected the gods. Especially if he got a load of whiny mortals begging for life or “just a few more minutes” as they so modestly put it. It did not drive him up the hill but got annoying after a while. Almost ironically he heard one such type mortal’s voice.
“Dis. Dis! May I ask you a few questions?" Said Blue with his body position and voice back to normal. “Yes wolf. You can. Nothing stupid though. For instance, yes you are dead forever. Death is eternal and there is no going back.” The god spoke fast and almost looked angry. But what did mortals actually think though? That they would be brought back on request? “Oh..ok” Blue replied. A bit stumped and embarrassed about that the question Dis mentioned was going to be his first. “"What’s the land like here?” Blue said as his second question. “It’s a mix of many that are found in life. There are forests, mountains, deserts, plains coast. All the terrain you can think of exists here and several others that I’ll let you find out. It’s much easier and nicer for you to explore these places since you feel no pain while you are already dead” “That sounds interesting.” The wolf closed his eyes as he smiled in joy. A thought had come to him of himself with the dead of his pack, running up the tallest mountain. Playing, howling with his Father and Mother again with Jas ahead while the dead pups followed behind. Such a sweet sweet thought….and it would so easily be real.
He opened his eyes and brought his gaze back on the god. "Do I need to hunt or drin-"You don’t need to wolf but you can if you want. In this world prey that has died are not hunted here. It would unfair to not let them rest. But there is magic that I’ve created here that interacts with a predators mind; creating prey to hunt. They will taste the same but some are much harder to catch." With the end of that sentence he did that strange wink again at Blue. “Water is the same. I’m sure you want something to drink now and again” “I would Dis. I would” He said with all this information coming into his furry head. The wolf had wondered what happens to prey. Some in life said that they were hunted while others say that they rested in peace. Blue was glad to know now. “Well I’m going to see if I can find my parents and pack mates. Thank you for helping me. Even if you did scare me” “No problem wolf. Goodbye” At that point Blue flew off; stumbling slightly making Dis silently chuckle. And death was the worst fate ever they said….
