Name: Miscae
Gender: Female
Age: 5 years
Species: Roosevelt Elk
Personality: Most of the time Miscae is a sweet little doe. She loves children, having had a few of her own. Her voice is always a bit quiet when she is just talking with a friend or gossiping about something. But when this elk wants to be heard, she is! Miscae will rise to any challenge you put in front of her. She doesn’t believe that her height affects her in anyway, and seems to make up for it in spirit. Miscae will defend the herd when the males split into their bachelor groups and leave the girls alone. In fact, during the rut if a male is acting a bit cowardly or losing against a predator she will step in and help. Miscae hates cowards with a passion, especially if they are male. She never seems down, always with a bit of prance in her step. She acts like a mother, and will quickly tell you if you done something wrong. Of course, most of the time she is sweet about it just hinting at it but if you annoy her, get ready for an earful! Sweet and sassy, you don’t meet an elk like Miscae everyday.
History: Miscae was born on a rather warm day, along with her sister Lillia. At that time she her coat was a light golden brown with light and dark spots to help hide her from predators. Of course, Miscae never had to worry. Her father was in his prime, even though her mother was a bit old. He watched over her with care, and Miscae always thought that she was his favorite in the herd. Of course, even her father’s careful protection couldn’t have prevented Lillia from dying rather young. Her lungs were weak, and she died in her sleep.
Lillia’s death actually brought Miscae closer to her father. When she was dropped of to be calf sat so her mother could graze, Miscae would find her father and tag along behind him even though that often ment leaving her head. Still she got her way because the males often had to graze close by the female herd, because of the area’s small size. Eventually Miscae began playing with other caves her age, although she was rather torn in the middle. She liked to talk and eat with the girls, but also liked to run around and butt heads with the boys. When the boys began to get much bigger than her, Miscae still keep playing with them. What stopped her in the end was the fact she didn’t grow an antlers.
Miscae mellowed down a bit after than, saving her fun for chasing off predators. She was bigger than them and had hooves, so she never really saw the danger in it. Sometimes they scored bites to her flank and legs, but a few good kicks would send any predator packing. Miscae also learned to enjoy watching the males fight during the rut, and often picked favorites to cheer on. She fell in love with one of the bigger elk, named Rein, and settled into his harem. Most of the time he did rather well in the fighting contests, but no matter what Miscae stood behind him. They loved each other, just like her parents had. She spent as much time as possible with Rein although stayed with the females after the calves were born.
During her first mating year, Miscae suffered from a miscarriages. However, on her third year Miscae gave birth to a strong little boy. Rather lucky, her little Rain survived his first year and went on to become a fine elk. On her fourth year, Miscae produced a pair of twin girls who because of lack of protection were killed by predators after birth. She still feels horrid about it, but realized that after going through labor there was little her tired body could have done. Her next calf went in a similar manner. After Mish had learned how to walk, he had proven to be rather rebelious. One day, he had gotten away from his mother and went towards the river against her wishes. Mish was killed by a bear, and Miscae still morns his loss.
Physical Appearance: For an elk, Miscae had rather strong markings. Most of her coat is actually a light russet, although the shade darkens on her head. Her neck and part of her face is covered in a dark brown. On her face the brown begins at her black nose, spreads over her cheeks and stops in the middle of the space between her eyes. Both of her ears are marked by the same color on the back. Her rump and tail a pale creamy white. Miscae’s legs are a much darker russet than her torso, although on the front the darker color lightens heavily half way up. Her eyes are a dark brown that is almost as dark as her black hooves. Miscae is not the biggest of elks, actually shorter than most females. And compared to males she is rather tiny, and delicate looking. Most of the time, her voice is soft and a tad high but she can surprise even male elk with the size of her voice. No one is quiet sure how such a smaller elk can make so much noise.
