The great forest, the heartland, Gaea’s paradise, the master terra! All of these names have been used to describe the Great Territory of Emerald Forest. Situated in the middle of the land, the forest has been the home to animals for eons! In the forest's time, countless generations have been born and died! Civilizations have risen and fell. Other huge forests have died away or have been destroyed! This forest is an ancient relic of bygone days before the rise of humanity had made its mark on the world! To some animals, stepping into this ancient forest is one of the greatest of honours.
The forest itself is huge and daunting. Grand, ancient trees tower over everything, blocking out much sunlight. The forest has a strange mix of evergreen and deciduous trees, giving it a strange look from afar. The ground can barley be seen with bushes, grass, smaller trees, leaves, dead trees, flowers and plants all swallowing the ground. It is like a complex and messy jigsaw. Many burrows are situated in the bottom of the trees, aswell as the ground which is home to many animals. There are some caves too. XXX river also goes through this place attracting fish, frogs, many plants and more birds while providing (if a bit murky) a drinking spot. A lot of rotting things in this place, be it plant or animal, get eaten quick. Great fallen logs are infested with large mushrooms while insects eat inside. Dead animals quickly become a feast to many, with insects, birds and scavengers all joining in. Nothing dead lasts in this forest for long. The forest is obviously a haven of life with virtually everything you can imagine being here (and very active)! Any animal that comes here will be well fed (except in winter). There are abundant amounts of small prey, fish, birds and great amounts of large prey. For non-predators there are all the leaves, plants, flowers, nuts and berries you could ever wish for! Despite its huge food reserves, competition will eventually occur.
A pack claiming this great forest will have their work cut out for them. They must navigate this maze of a territory and constantly guard it from intruders. This is a huge task. The advantage though is being able to support large pack with all of the food available!
With the countless generations come countless legends and myths about this Forest. Putting them all here would take too long. There are a few major ones, though, that have stayed alive. One says this was the first forest the earth goddess Gaea created and that she blessed it against fires and storms. Sometimes she is said to rest here when weary or become a tree and watch the animals. Another one says that if an animal dies here, its soul becomes part of the forest instead of joining the afterlife and is reborn as another animal. Finally, another legend states that a weary or old animal may regain some of its lost strength and become happier. Weather any of these are true is unknown.
