Shesh snapped her head around in surprise and instantly saw the other wolf, though this whole time she'd been oblivious. Her ears lay back as nervousness swept over her again.
"Uhhh....no...I've never seen that wolf before...," she sheepishly admitted. "Why is she just watching us? Is she waiting for some meat?"
Shesh was ashamed of herself for not being more alert. The fresh kill, the strange wolf and his alien ways...they'd all distracted her. She hoped this new wolf, who was obviously a good hunter and was so large and fearsome-looking, would not think too lowly of her. She was still new at surviving on her own out here. And somewhere in the back regions of her mind she wondered about his statements:
...as for a family, i've never known one...
Those words haunted her. Was this a place where wolves lived alone? Where the pack mentality was unknown? She hoped not...her life seemed bred into her very bones. How could one change that?
She continued to watch the distant wolf carefully and wondered what would happen next....everything was so new and very confusing!

He shoke off her reply, oh well he thiught to himself suppose not every wolf knows every wolf like not every dogs knows every dog. He looked up to her again, noticing her scars, in a way it gave him hope, if a wolf with many scars could survaive the bitterness of nature then perhaps he could too, he smiled to himself.
"Perhaps she is but from the look of her i doubt she'd need they pity of ravens to lend her a mouthful of meat." his smile now beaming up to her.
"Why so afraid young wolf? Do you sense danger? Does the wind speak of smells from beyond? Do your ears speak of atrosities approaching? Do your eyes see death creeping from the corner of your eye?" He asked with a flinch in his tail, as if it itself were alive and awaiting an answer.
Just to be sure he smelt the air, deep and long he inhailed. His nose wouldn't steer him wrong. Alas nothing came rushing to warn him of danger, they were safe... for now.

Shesh chuckled nervously. "No...no danger that I smell. Just nerves I'm afraid. This place seems so new to me and the customs here so strange. Do wolves truly not form packs here? Who do you rely on? I'm afraid, as a stranger, I still understand little. And I must seem like a bumpkin to you, who have been here so long.."
Shesh sighed. She felt embarrassed and flustered. She wondered at the other wolf still but perhaps it was only resting, up so high. At any rate, it didn't seem very threatening. So Shesh stopped worrying about it too much.

At the young she-wolf's reply he felt she needed a little protection until she was on her feet, whether it was the dog's famous loyalty or the wolf's need for a pack he wasn't sure but he followed it. Instinct can't steer you wrong, not if it's been trough the lives of many from generation to generation.
"Perhaps we best stick together then, just to make sure no one decides to mess with us."
He took his place next to the nervous she-wolf, scanning the area for any potential threat. He couldn't help but smile at her 'bumpkin to you, who have been here so long...' her words repeating themselves in his head. Here for long...if only she knew he was new like herself he'd only been in this area for 6 days, the other week was spent trying to escape those angry bullets and furious threats from the dogs he'd so many times passed in the streets.
"It's getting chilly out here, we should find shelter."
He made a slow trot infront of the she-wolf, making a bee-line to the edge of the eternal plains, perhaps there would be shelter there.

Miscae wasn't really suprised that the wolf stuck around for a bit. Surly it thought that she was just tolerating the moose's presence for now and that any second she would wander off without it. And it was rather nice to know that she had just cost a predator a meal. Smiling at Moosh's words Miscae lended down taking a bite of grass. Chewing it, she lookedover Moosch getting to know his coat pattern. The wolf slipped to the back of her mind rather quickly. But then her ears turned as the canine spoke out, threatening her little Moosch. She was suprised the wolf knew how to speak to other species. Herd animals had to, it was for their best intrests. Raising her voice, Misce sent back her own little threat.
{Stray too close to this herd mutts and you will find out just how hard my hooves are!}
Rearing up Miscae struck the ground with her hooves, taking care not to hit Moosh. After stopping on the ground with one hoof, she let out a loud snort. Predators may have teeth and claws, but she was much bigger than all of them. True, she lacked horns but her hooves still worked very well. Her anger was flaring at the idea that she would allow her new child to wander away from the safety of the herd. Miscae had already lost a child that way. But then, Miscae looked down to her new little calf and she felt a little smile flirt on her face. Her noose ran over his soft baby fur, tickling her lips as she did this. Admitably, Miscae regreted that he was a different species than she, but there couldn't be any hard in her keeping him. Elk and moose often grazed together, side by side to protect themselves from predators. It was nature's way.

Shesh began to frisk alongside the wolf-dog happily. She had warm meat in her belly and a companion at last. Life was really looking up!
"We're forming a pack! It's going to be ever so much easier to do things now! And just wait...I bet there'll be others soon.."
Shesh glanced over her shoulder as they trotted off. Maybe they'd run into the watching wolf again sometime...she didn't seem particularly eager to join a pack. Again, Shesh wrote it off as different land, different customs. But maybe later they'd get a chance to talk...the plains were big, after all, but they didn't go on forever!
Or did they? It was all so big!
"What's your name anyway? I'm Shesh, it means brown bear! My mother named me that cause when I was a baby I was all roly-poly and fuzzy! I guess I grew out of that, heh...where are we going, anyway? Do you have a den anywhere nearby? Where are the good spots to rest? Oh! Are there quail here? I just love quail!"
Shesh trailed off happily, chattering and excited.

Toby couldn't help but smile to himself at Shesh's delight, seeing smiles was rare so he cherished every second. The tops of trees peeking over the horizon his pace increased, eager to find a spot to rest.
"Nice name, suits you. The humans called me Toby, i don't know any other name so i suppose that is what i should be known as. We're heading to the forest, there is sure to be shelter there. Not far to go."
The trees ever growing closer, Toby scanned for any clues of a suitable resting spot, so far the fringes of the forest didn't seem to offer much apart from a carpet of pine needles and old fallen leaves. Perhaps they would have to go deeper into the Emerald Forest. The thought of this made Toby uneasy, what if the humans were there waiting? With those angry bullets hungry for his hide.

They were moving away now... heading for the forest. Blackthorn watched them walk side-by-side, and remembered what it was like to be young. Alive and wild, careless and naiive, ambitions and heart ruling over head. Those days were flickering memories now... shadows in her mind, shapes in the twilight. Her face caught her eye , reflected in a crystal puddle next to her paw, and she stared long and hard at the valleys pitted in her muzzle, at the fading gold of her good eye. Time was against her. And a choice she thought she'd never have to make again came into her mind; should she join a pack?

{OOC: Blackthorn, I didn't mean to leave you hanging...i thought you were going out of town so I didn't have Shesh head over...but please feel free to join us if you want ^ ^}
Shesh trotted confidently alongside Toby into the forest. She continued deeper in, certain they could find some cover further from the plains. She sniffed at the earth, seeking the damp smell of a thicket or depression.
"Oh...Toby....I think there's *sniff sniff* yes...I think there's something ahead. Maybe on the other side of that giant tree. I smell damp leaves. Maybe there's some room between its roots...or maybe a burrow we could use?"
Shesh skipped ahead, wondering why Toby was so reluctant. She'd felt his uneasiness more and more the further in they'd gone. What was it? She didn't feel it was a dangerous place...

Blackthorn could only just see the young pair now, trotting towards the trees. Maybe it was time she did something other than sit here all day, watching herself turn to dust and thinking of days gone past. Before her pride could get in the way, she hopped down from the rocks and began to follow the two young wolves. Part of her-- the old, grumpy, proud and stubborn part of her-- hoped they wouldn't notice her. After all, hadn't being part of a pack brought about all the heartbreak and terror she'd had in her life? If she'd been born a lone wolf, perhaps she'd still have Kenna with her. Perhaps she'd never had met Firefly and had her heart torn out of her chest when she had to leave him behind. Plus she'd still have her eye. Yet inside her she knew that it was either that or die alone, hungry and weak, with no support to catch her when her body failed her. She was catching up now: Good. Her body hurt, her breath was rasping and her heart felt as if it might explode at any second. But she told herself firmly that it would all pay off. Wait she said, panting and wheezing. Making herself small and humble, she recited the old words of the subordinate her mother had taught her long ago.
I stand before you, my superiors, bite me if you will. I respect your every word: your strength and speed and skill. Lead me, guide me, watch me, and I will do the same for you. I'll protect your pups and hunt and work and always remain true. From the ends of the earth to the end of time, I will watch your back, So Alpha, will you spare me and let me join your pack?
Those words kept sticking in Blackthorn's throat. They sounded pathetic, and she kept forgetting bits of it-- she doubted these wolves would even know what she was talking about, the chant was so old. She waited for a response.

OOC: Hey everyone sorry for the late reply, been offline due to changing connections, didn't have time to warn anyone ^^;
His ears swivelled sharply, followed by scrutinising eyes. Fear of the humans pushed aside by this unexpected scene. From what he saw he half expected the wolf to be a fragment of his edgey mind, apparently not, no this wolf was all too real, yet the scene didn't seem so. Noting her submissive posture he couldn't help but try to stand tall, a strange sense of superiourity overcame him briefly. There goes that word again, he thought 'pack'. After pacing a few steps left and right eyeing the old wolf, as casually and uncaring as the wind in winter he said "Sure, whatever. You know where we can find shelter? Is there anything near here?"
Hearing Shesh talk of burrows sounded somewhat funny to him, although talking of humans she looked at him as if he were the crazy one so he shook off his chuckles as he thought of Shesh and her absurd sounding ideas and words, however absurd she was she seemed far better company than any other dog he'd had a glimpse of in the streets. For one she at least looked at him when she was talking. With her he felt more significant than he'd ever felt, with this older wolf addressing them in such a manner he couldn't help but wonder, was there really something to him being a wolf business? The spring in his step rose as he plodded through the new stream of thoughts.

Blackthorn thought for a moment, searching the realms of her mind. There is the rock pile she said, gesturing towards the rocks she'd been sitting on previously, But three wolves cannot fit there. There is a good shelter in the woods-- an old tree that was struck by lightning and fell over. There are many large-sized holes in the roots and around it. Perhaps we can rest there. She definitely needed a rest!

{OOC: Hey guys I'm moving and won't be around much for a while...feel free to continue on and maybe just have Shesh follow the others around or something. You can also have her react or say a couple lines if it's needed (and if that's allowed?) I'll be back when things have calmed down } Shesh started when the old wolf spoke but she soon looked to Toby. They hadn't pecked out which of them was a leader, yet, and they had only just now decided on eing a pack. But something in Shesh's nature craved leadership and she was thrilled to hear the old subordinate speech and Toby's acceptance. For the first time she felt more at home. She walked forward and began sniffing a greeting and getting to know the others' scent. " An old blasted tree sounds ideal. Show us the way and we'll follow"

OOC: Ok Marji, see you when you return and hope all goes well ^^ Toby noticed Shesh's spirit brighten at the little speech the old wolf recited. Mimicing Shesh he also sniffed, if he was going to be with these wolves for a while he might as well get to know their customs and laws if he was to hope of surviving. The old tree the wolf described sounded inviting, more inviting than the kennel he had stayed in all his life though most dogs would see this as a step down, somehow it didn't feel that way for Toby, more like a step forward into something new and bold something he could be, something that he'd like to be. Nodding in agreement he followed the old wolf, for those so fabled visious killers they were far more hospitable than any master.

Blackthorn smiled-- they seemed to think it a good idea. She knew these plains like her own fleas. Follow me she said, stepping into the shade of the trees and sniffing out the familiar route alongside the stream. As they approached, Blackthorn turned, realising she hadn't introduced herself. I am.... She paused, almost saying Moon-eye. It felt strange not having to use her false name, but she reassured herself-- the members of her old pack who had attacked her were most likely either dead or old and half-rotten, no longer interested in vengeance. Finishing her sentence-- ...Blackthorn-- she padded onwards. It would be hard getting used to pack life again. She could see the tree now, its great charcoaled scar standing out on its pallid bark. Its roots flailed in the air, gleaming with cobwebs spun between its gnarled fingers, and the earth underneath it hollowed out by the claws of shelter-seeking creatures. Here we are Blackthorn said, trying hard to catch her breath, and promptly collapsed next to the tree.
